There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. edit

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. edit

For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: edit

That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. edit

For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. edit

For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. edit

Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. edit

So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. edit

But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. edit

And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. edit

But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. edit

Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. edit

For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. edit

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. edit

For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. edit

The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: edit

And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. edit

Paraphrase Romans 8:1-17- Through the death of Christ, man was set free from sin and death. By giving their lives over to Christ, Christians are given new life through the Spirit of God who now dwells in them. Those who follow their sinful desires will only find death, but those who submit to God and become Christians are given the Spirit of Christ along with new life and freedom from sin. Those set free through Christ and the Spirit are now children of God and are to live according to the Spirit.

Those who give their lives to Christ no longer are held accountable to pay for their sins because through Jesus arrives freedom from sin and death. The influence of the law was faint as a result of man’s continuous addiction to sin, so God sent His own Son as a man to atone for man’s sin. Christ conquered sin in order that man would no longer live in bondage to sin and so the -righteousness of the law would be met in those who live not a slave to sin but in harmony to the Spirit. Those still living in sin have there minds focused on sinful wants but those living by the Spirit have their minds not set on what they want but what the Spirit wants for them. The way a sinful man thinks and reasons will only lead to death. A mind led by the Spirit of God is filled with life and peace. A sinful man wants to control his own life and hardens himself to God. The sinful man does not want to give up control to God and follow the rules of God nor is he even able to do so alone. Men who are still submissive to sin can not please God.
However you, being a Christian, aren’t directed by sin and your own desires but by the Spirit. If anyone hasn’t received Christ’s Spirit he does not belong to Christ. If Christ lives in you through His Spirit, your body is dead because of sin and life is by way of blamelessness that is now in your soul because of the Spirit. If the same Spirit that had the power to bring Christ’s body back from death is alive in you, your body that was dead is now also alive because of Christ’s Spirit that is now living in you.
So brothers and sisters in Christ we have a responsibility to not live as we used to in step with sin. If you live in step with sin you will only find death (Romans 6:23), but if you follow the Spirit you will put your past self to decease. You will only have life because you are following the direction of the Spirit of God; those who follow in such a way are children to God. You did not receive the Spirit to just go back to your old ways that make you fearful but you are now a child of God. We can call out to God “Father”, “Dad” because you are now his child. The Spirit confirms with our soul that we are sons and daughters to God. If we are sons and daughters of God then we are to inherit from God. In inheriting from God we also become coinheritors with Christ because Christ is the Son of God and Christians are children of God.Christians are coinheritors with Christ by enduring the same harsh sufferance to share in the spoils of glory.

For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. edit

For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. edit

For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, edit

Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. edit

For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. edit

And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body. edit

For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? edit

But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it. edit

Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. edit

And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. edit

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. edit

For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. edit

Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. edit

What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? edit

He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? edit

Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. edit

Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. edit

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? edit

As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. edit

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. edit

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, edit

Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. edit
